Beauty in fabric…

Sunday Funday was in full effect yesterday. I enjoyed a beautiful brunch with some special people in my life.

Yes, summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean the fun, outdoorsy plans should end. Enjoy the last few weeks and if you dare, break out some vibrant colors. It’s a great mood-booster.

Happy (not so) end of summer!

Summer Hair

The first day of summer is finally here! It was an absolutely gorgeous day in NYC where I enjoyed a relaxing BBQ with family and friends.

We all know the importance of applying sunscreen to our skin to protect it from the harmful sun rays, but did you know that your hair needs protection as well?

Here are two simple ways to protect your hair from the sun during those fun, outdoor activities in the summer:

1. Rub a Small Amount of Coconut Oil to the Hair
The sun can make your hair seem/feel dry and damaged after being exposed for hours. This helps keep moisture locked in and add a little shine, especially if you’re going for a swim at the beach or pool.

A cute style when you apply coconut oil and don’t wash your hair right away is a side-braid, like the one pictured above. It’s also great for those hot days when you don’t want your hair to get in the way.

2. Wear a Hat or Cap
Similar to the note above, something as simple as a hat/cap can help keep your scalp and tresses protected.

I know it’s not always possible or practical to wear something on your head, but if you could at least apply a dime-sized or nickel-sized amount of coconut oil (you’ll learn how much to apply without giving it the greasy look), it will go a long way.

Happy Summer! Don’t forget to smile and have fun.

Knot Today

I’ve been doing a lot of hair blogs lately, but as my 3rd grade teacher always said, “A girl’s hair is her crown of glory”.

This past weekend I went to the pool and already had some of Kinky-Curly’s Knot Today leave-in conditioner in my hair. After I was done with my morning swim, I applied some more to my ends (about a quarter-size) and I was good to go! Chlorine, and even salt water at the beach, can leave your hair feeling brittle or dry, but this product worked wonders on my hair.

Knot Today is paraben free, silicone free, sulfate free, and so much more. Highly Recommended!
